About The Event

Dear Neighbor,

We are pleased to invite you and members of your organization to Save the Great South Bay's creek clean-up of Brown's River and Sans Souci at 9am on (TBD). I will be posting the event flyer in the weeks ahead.

This email is from Bob Draffin, Bayport Creek Defender, as well as James Bertsch, Sayville's Creek Defender.  This is a joint effort from the two of us.  We have come together because Brown's River is what brings our two communities together.  Please email James Bertsch (jjjbertsch@hotmail.com) if you would like to participate.  James will also be contacting you individually because like all Creek Defenders, this is a local effort.  Personal, neighborly connections are what it's all about!  We hope you can join us!

We will meet at the intersection of Old Broadway Avenue and Old Montauk Highway; this meet-up location is right near the lake on the north side of Montauk Highway just to the east of Braodway Avenue.  Save the Great South Bay is joining with the Bayport Civic, the Bayport Junior Civic, the Sayville Rotary, the Sayville Ferries, Cornucopia and other organizations to clean the largest of our local three creeks.  This is our first group canvas so we expect our effort to grow.  It's a good thing because this creek is huge, stretching from the lakes of Sans Souci just south of Sunrise Highway all the way through Lotus Lake and into and through Brown's River.   We need your help!  All groups are welcome!

We are following Save the Great South Bay's Defender model.  Our model is based on the idea that cleaning our creeks is an important way we save our bay.  As SGSB explains in regards to the Creek Defender, "The Great South Bay will only be as healthy as the 36 creeks that flow into it.   The mainland is sick.   The bay is but the symptom."  To learn more about SGSB's Creek Defender, please see our website:  https://savethegreatsouthbay.org/our-work/the-creek-defender-program/.

We have attached a map and satellite views of our clean-up area.  Also attached are photos of prior clean-ups (Greenes, 2018 and Mill Pond, 2019).  Beyond the great environmental benefits of our action, clean-ups are a great time!  There will be lots of kayaks, canoes and trekking through trails.  It's a lot of fun

Come have fun and help us Save the Great South Bay!  And please don't hesitate to email or call me (516.987.6453) if you have any questions.

Thank you,

SGSB Creek Defenders
